I can sometimes really dread it when the time comes around for my bedroom to have need a clear out, even though I know it will make me feel so much better and productive. I used to become quite lost with how to do it, how to start it and how I can really get my room to look its best. So if you are here to get the most out of your clean, you are in the right place!
Moving
The first step is quite simple, start by moving everything off of your shelves and cabinets and into a middle space that doesn't need to be cleaned until the end, for me this is my bed. I would gather it all and make sure it is not too dusty else you will be sneezing for hours! So, use a duster and ensure it is reasonably clean before you move it. Also, move everything into the middle of the room so you have access to the whole rooms outer edges.
Polish.
Now, if you don't do this next step carefully you won't get the full effect off of it. Top tip: Make sure that you go from your top shelf or lampshade and move down so that all the dirt and dust moves to the floor and not onto a surface you have already cleaned. This will include dusting all your skirting boards so that it is easier to hoover later on. Make sure you include the little jobs like these as it will make jobs further down the line easier to complete.
Get Rid!
This next step is so important if you are looking for a fresh start as if you are very strict with yourself then your room will end up being simplistic and neat. Get a roll of bin bags and set them up for rubbish and charity and then just sort through your whole room and be tough with yourself as you will want the most out of this experience. Understand if you haven't used/appreciated it in the past year then you don't need to keep it unless it has a large value to you, if you have no emotional connection with it then don't keep it. Within this process I tend to fill two and sometimes three full bin bags. By the end of this step your room should look very messy but still newly empty.
Put Back.
The next step is to decide where the furniture you're keeping is going to be put back and a bit of advice is to change it up if you can as it can really help when it comes to having a fresh start or wanting to change things up, especially when it comes to being in quarantine as it can feel like each day molds into the other, so swapping it around can help mentality. Top tip: Make sure you clean everything fully before you put it back so that your not creating anymore dirt or dust! I tend to move stuff around a couple times before I decide what I really want.
Move stuff out and hoover
Finally, gather everything you were getting rid off and move it out of your room, take your stuff to the charity and the bin. This way you can really appreciate the room and whether you like what you have accomplished. Then, hoover the whole room and make sure everything is cleared and make sure everything is clean.
Then you are finished, your room should feel clear and fresh and I would highly recommend lighting a candle or opening a new air freshener and it will really freshen up your room. Also, open up your windows as then you can have a gentle breeze flowing through and will make it feel so much brighter and open. Finally, change your bedding as it would be quite dirty after keeping your accessories on it. I hope this has helped motivate you and give you structure to clean your room and have a fresher start during this time.
Many thanks,
Jessica-Jayne.
