Motivation through quarantine

As we know, the world is a weird place at the minute. For people similar to my age it can be quite stressful with such a confusing and new time, especially when it comes to our education. With our role models, such as our parents, not evening knowing what is happening and seeing them stressed has caused a higher level of anxiety to be apparent in my life recently. But before I get into what I find helps to get me motivated through this time, I just want to say a MASSIVE thank you to all the key workers that have helped keep the UK going.

Okay, so my first way to motivate myself is to have a routine (in the future I will talk in detail about what exactly my routine includes, please leave a comment if you would like me to do this!). This allows me to feel that life is still slightly normal and that I am staying organised. For me, I like to have control and organisation with my day to day life and my educational progress. So, this is very important that I can have a way to make sure I don't just procrastinate and still get everything I need to do get done. For example making sure I do at least two hours of school work in the morning to ensure I still feel that life is still slightly normal. This can be extremely beneficial as it boosts my mental health because if I go for a long period of time where I don't know what to do day to day, I become very low in my mood and my self-esteem can lower due to not feeling like I am accomplishing much.

Many people have stated this one but I do agree, choose new hobbies that you always thought you wouldn't like to do or be able to accomplish. For me, this meant running and learning to play football. When I was younger these were two activities I HATED to do as I always struggled to push myself to do them. But as I was put into lockdown when I was with my boyfriend and he can do both these hobbies, he pushed me to try these activities and I loved them! I am developing these new skills that I would have never tried before due to having this free time. It has helped me mentally as well as it has boosted my self-confidence as I am seeing myself become stronger physically and mentally. I would highly recommend getting involved in different types of sports and creative activities as you can learn new things about yourself as you go. I also plan to try and teach myself how to draw as it is said to be very mentally beneficial as it is a way to zone out and relax from stress in the media, work/school and family.

My next motivational technique is only a small one and could fit within the last one but it's a very beneficial thing for me. It is baking. I love to bake as it is a fun way to let go of stress as it is very experimental and you can do many types of food so I find it so fun and interesting to do. I must admit I am not the best at it but if anyone wants me to try a recipe for them and write a small post on how I did it and what the outcome was for an amateur baker then subscribe and leave me a comment :)

My final motivational technique through this hard time is cleaning and re-decorating. I feel that this process can help massively clear the mind. When my room is messy or not the way I like it I can find doing work is more stressful and difficult to do things I need to do. I don't know if you guys agree but re-decorating is so fun and influences how I change and grow as a person. An example of this was after I did my GCSE's (a set of exams you do if you are 15/16) I completely redecorated my bedroom and this helped as for me I found the exams really heard and extremely stressful. So, it was a fresh start and this helped me gain confidence back from a stressful time period in my life. It allowed me to change my room from young and girly to more grown up to suit the next step I was making at that point in my life. So, if you feel that you need a change in your life and feel like you need a fresh start as you can see that you are changing as a person and your room, flat or house doesn't quite fit this then start new and re-decorate. I understand this can be quite expensive but you can find pieces to re-do in charity shops and other thrift-type stores to get good pieces for your new rooms!

I hope this little piece helped motivate you through this tough time.

Thanks,

Jessica-Jayne
