Lets just say... unmotivated.

It is something that many of us students have had to tackle again because of a national lockdown. For us who are older, we have to do it independently and that can make it a lot harder to do. It can be quite isolating and you have to focus when your bed is right next to you. We all know the struggle of having to do maths homework due the next day but now it is constant which can be a little hard. I am really using all the methods I know to try and keep me going and sticking to all my assignments. It can be tricky but with the right methods we can get through it.
Wear motivational clothing:
This method is needed so much for me. The piece of clothing I insist on wearing is jeans! Jeans are my "I'm ready for the world today" clothes. It means that I can challenge everything and anything that can come my way that day. I love just getting up and getting dressed to feel refreshed and prepared.
Write out all your tasks:
I have a small A5 notebook that I write down all my daily tasks (normally this is between 6 to 12 tasks a day) and I try not to overwhelm myself. If I do then I am more likely to complete less tasks from it. So make sure you write a reasonable amount of tasks that are just the right balance. It also makes me wayyyy more relaxed as I know I have not forgotten anything as I have it all written down so I can ensure I can focus on the task at hand.
Write down the things you have achieved:
This is a rewarding method as well. For this I also use my A5 notebook. This just allows me to actually prove to myself that I have been productive. I need this as some days I overload myself with so much that I can feel like I did not get enough done. I like to have physical evidence for my achievements day by day. It can be such a mental strengthener. So I highly recommend that you start writing down even like the littlest of things like attending lessons.
Clear your workspace:
I find it such a benefit when I have a tidy desk. "Tidy space, Tidy mind" as they say. I always find I can focus better if I have a clear space and everything where it needs to be so I can access it in the time I need it. I always find an online lesson way more stressful if I have and untidy workspace. So, I recommend cleaning that untidy desk and ensuring it is all ready for that online lesson! The photo at the beginning of the post is how I like to have my desk layed out.
Get up early and keep that routine:
If you get into the routine of sitting in bed to do your lessons and getting up in the middle of the day, you will most likely not feel at all motivated nor productive to get anything done. This will ruin the way you fell. It might just be me, but when I get up late I feel like I have no time to get anything done and therefore I feel so much more stressed than I need to be. So make sure you get up and get going at a good time in the morning.
Learn the right balance:
It can be so hard not to sit all day and do the work or abandon it all and act like it doesn't exist. This can be due to the fact that sometimes the teachers can give a lot more or a lot less work than they would in class. But you need to ensure that you put the right amount of hours towards to your lessons and also balance it with time for you and what you want to do. Don't forget that if you do not get enough time for you, you will most likely not get as much work done as you need to. So.. make time for you!!
The reality to trying to get remote work done is that it is tricky, you have to balance it. For young people that can be hard and skills we have only just started to learn. But make sure you do all of this for you.
I really hope this has helped and you feel better the next time you attend your remote lessons!
Stay happy and stay safe.
Many thanks,
Jessica-Jayne xx
