Why Health And Social Care?

Okay, so there are many reasons to why you should consider health and social care. It is something that is not heard (or discussed) regularly. Normally it is something that isn't deemed equal to other courses and people who take it aren't very "intelligent". But, I can tell you.. that is not the case!!

People don't know much about this course which is why through my YouTube channel and through my Blog I want to make students aware (who want to be in a health or social care setting) that this can definitely be a course to look at, even if they want to go to a University.

It brings you closer to the actual job roles:

First of all, it is so associated with everything that this type of care includes. This could be the specific legislation, how to provide holistic care and also how to write an accurate risk assessment. It is so centred around everything you want to do. If you are looking at A-levels but feeling it isn't specific enough for the pathway you want to take, then it is definitely worthwhile to look more into this subject. If you are someone like me who loves healthcare settings and seeing the way a hospital works than this will definitely give you that kind of understanding. It will make you feel like you are just being prepared for being placed into the setting. It also goes so into depth on how to handle specific patients and creating care that surrounds them, so it gives you skills to ensure you can provide the right care.

It is a balanced coursework and exam based course:

Secondly, it is both exam and coursework based. For me, this is a positive however, it does still include exams (which is not my strong point!) which contributes to a large amount of your points. This causes it to be fairly balanced and can allow you to show your strengths in either areas. This means you get given more opportunities to show your capabilities within this course. So, if you are like me who cannot show the best you can do through exams than you have plenty of chance to bring it back in coursework or visa versa. A lot of you, come to me asking about what either part is like and to be honest they both take time and devotion but it spreads out the attention span you need as you do exams around January (obviously this year might be different) and then you do coursework for the rest of the year. It overall, allows you to have enough time to complete either area.

Everyone is in the same boat:

A third point, is that you are working with like-minded people. This means that everyone in your classes is in the same boat as you and they also have similar aspirations to you which means that within the class you have more support as you can all relate to each other. This creates a good class atmosphere and (for me) motivates you to work harder and be way more dedicated to the course. I feel like it is different to A-levels and GCSEs as they are general courses people take that can just take them to their next step but isn't as specific as they would like, this course is super specific so you don't get as many as those students who just rock up to get it over and done with it, a lot of people end of loving this course and you don't get that feeling as much when you sit a class.

You do 100 hours of work experience:

My fourth and final point is that, you do way more hours of work experience than you do with A-levels. This means that you are more likely to work in hospitals and care settings for these 100 hours and gain a lot more experience to prepare you for working in the future. This puts you in front of a lot of other people as you already know what that care area is like as you have worked in it and this means that the employer will be more attracted to that (yet again, this year is different but hopefully this will change soon). It can also make you more confident in that field when it comes to either applying or working in that area as you can present skills that others can't.

Overall, this course is brilliant for those who want to go into this area and can make you feel a lot more confident in the future.

Thanks, stay safe and happy!
