This is something very important to me and I feel that anyone who has had that type of pet before should definitely look into getting a rescue animal.
To start, I am going to introduce the reason why I am so passionate about rescuing. Her name is AJ and she is my families rescue dog. She is an Akita cross Husky. We got her in September 2017. We first saw her on Facebook on holiday in France. She was being advertised to be rehomed. Dad fell in love with her straight away and my sister and I were trying to persuade our parents to get a third dog anyway. She came along just at the right time. It was a long process of deciding whether it was the right time to adopt but we already knew she needed a good home and we were going to be the family she needed.

When we got her she was 10 months old and we were told her old owners 'were moving house and the new place didn't allow dogs'. She also had very soft paws which meant she had rarely been walked outside on hard surfaces. Due to her being made up of energetic breeds she may of been a very hyper puppy. She also seemed to cower a lot when anyone would use their hands to talk which shows she was fearful. Now, this broke our hearts as our family believes a dog should have big long walks and should never be scared of their owners. If you are looking into getting a rescue pet be aware they will need a lot of your time, this could be for attention, walking, training and more to allow them to fit into your household well. Now, rescuing can be a very long process as you have to take time to visit the animal and then you have to do a trial to see how they get on in the house. You also have to have someone to do an evaluation to see if your house is a safe space for a rescue to live there. It took a while for AJ to be trained but she was a very affectionate dog so she made it very worthwhile. She loves having cuddles on the sofa in the evening and giving you kisses when ever she can! My favourite thing of hers is when she wants attention she will 'hold your hand' this means she will mouth on your hand as a sign she wants love or is in the mood to play.

Each pet will come with their own uniqueness and their own problems. This means that you will have to adapt to that and you will most likely adore their personality. It is so incredibly rewarding to help an animal grow into the best pet. They may come with a troubled past but you can give them their best future.
The only thing I would recommend, is to do your research!! If you don't know much about the breed you won't be able to assess what level of exercise they need and how they will be during training. Now every animal is different but they may have some traits similar to what their breed stereotypically says. Also, if you have never had an animal similar to one you have found, I would say don't look into rescue unless you have education of what it is like living with that kind of animal cause else a lot will be new to you and if the animal comes with a difficult story then you may find it hard to train and live with. That is me being brutally honest.
